Both the historical records and the recent scouting have shown that there is a large population of Marco Polo Argali on Pamir along Chinese border. In the artide "The Legend of Chapchingal" written by Elgin T.Gates in 1959,he vividly described his polii hunt. This great story has clearly indicated: "From the top of this 20,600 feet pass(Chapchingal) one can look down into China... The valley going down into China is called Taghdumbash. This is the home of the mighty Ovis polii."
