The Population Of Marco Polo Argali Recovered Rapidly

Marco Polo Argali(Ovis ammon polii) is also called big head sheep in local place, is Pamir sub-species of argali family, this kind of argali mainly distributed in Pamir Plateau and west part of Tianshan Mountain , listed on the National Conservation Species Ⅱ .

    International wildlife conservation association took a cooperate research on the Marco Polo Argali distributed in Pamir Plateau with Xinjiang Wildlife Conservation Association, two counties of Kashi, Taxkorgan and Aktao are mainpoint of the research. The leader, Dr.George once took a field research to the county of Taxkorgan in the year of 1985, there were only about 150 Marco Polo Argali at that time. But it ' s more than 970 in this field and even more than 1200 live in Aktao. The sharply recovery of the population and Xinjiang ' s active wildlife conservation measures were highly praised by Chinese and foreign experts.
